If you have a known cat allergy in the family, we require that you perform a test
before a kitten can be released to your home.
before a kitten can be released to your home.
There are three types of tests that can be performed:
From our experience, the best type of the test is In-person test with the kittens in the nursery. Usually we do not allow visits to the nursery before the kittens received their first set of CORE vaccines due to the risk of potential infections. Young kittens are extremely vulnerable to external micro-flora when their initial immunity from the mom winds down after 4 to 6 weeks of age.
In-Person Test: <= PLEASE NOTE: NO allergy tests can be performed during the pandemic regardless your vaccination status
During this test/s, you will enjoy playing with the kittens typically for 1 hour. This is also the best time to make your selection of a kitten. If during your visit AND few hours after you do not experience any reaction or have a minimal reaction that you are ready to live with, you are good to go and can reserve your selected kitten. The payment made for the test goes towards the total price of a kitten.
Advanced test with the parent/s and kittens:
Each cat and kitten has it's own individual level of allergens produced. However, if a person does NOT have adverse reaction to either of the parents, it is quite reasonable to assume that they will be safe with their kittens. This test may be taken if a person does not want to wait until the kittens themselves can be tested. Some people prefer to make sure they do not have a reaction to parents before they commit OR they are not ready for purchase yet and just want to test themselves without making commitment. In the latter case, you have just paid $100 for our time spent with you because undoubtedly you value the time of others no less than your own. However, this test is not always can be scheduled depending on the availability of the breeder.
At this point you will need to make a decision to either proceed with non-refundable deposit/reservation or not. In fact, it is because of a large number of the "just curious" clients or "cattery hoppers" in the past, we had to stop allowing FREE unlimited visits to the cattery. Our priority of devotion of our limited time lies first of all with our equally committed clients.
Mail-in fur and saliva test from the parent/s:
This test should ONLY be requested by long-distance clients that are unable to visit us. We cannot guarantee that the results of this test will be adequate enough and you won't develop allergy to the particular kitten but sometimes there is just no other viable option because the kitten needs to be shipped by air. We carefully collect appropriate samples of fur and saliva from each parent and mail them to you together with instructions. The saliva collection is a very unpleasant procedure for the cat and takes time to collect. Extra cost is applicable - inquire with the breeder
If you do have an allergic reaction, you have two options:
More options to consider
You may also want to explore some holistic non-invasive approaches to reducing and treating allergies, such as NAET technique.

- In-person test with the existing litter and/or particular kittens/s. This test is performed when kittens received their first vaccinations at 8-9 weeks of age.
- Advanced (prior to getting to on waiting list) test in person with the prospective parents at $100/hour - not included in the price of a kitten. Such test is rarely available because of the breeder time constraints.
- Mail-in Test Kit - i.e. Mail-in fur and saliva test from the prospective parents: they are usually provided to the clients that live far away at extra cost.
